Crohn’s Symptoms: Ulcers And Abscesses
Crohn’s disease is one of the diseases that falls under the broader category of inflammatory bowel diseases or IBDs. These diseases are those that make the intestine inflamed and it usually occurs in the ileum or the lower intestine. In Crohn’s disease, the inflammation occurs in this part of the intestine though there are other symptoms that this disease produces in other parts of the body as well.
The ulcers first form on the intestine walls and they are usually a few on the surface of these walls. However, unless great care is taken, these ulcers get bigger and more sore and what is worse, they can progress deep into the intestinal walls and cause pain and inflammation as well as swelling.
Abscesses are sores that get infected and pus-filled and these can not only hurt the intestinal walls, they can also go through them and infect the organs close by. So when the urinary bladder or the vagina is infected, it could cause a great deal of pain as well as complications. A channel forms between the intestine and the bladder and this could mean that gas as well as feces could get into the urinary bladder through this pus filled channel. There could also be urinary tract infections that occur much more frequently because of this. Yet another complication is if the abscess makes its way out of the insides through the skin. One area where this could occur quite easily is the anus and when this happens it is termed as a fistula. Through the opening of the fistula in the anal region, there could be a discharge of pus and mucus.
Having to deal with ulcers and abscesses inside you can be both painful as well as disconcerting. The pain, the fever, the fatigue and the weakness that follow are all symptoms that no one wants to deal with. This is why it is imperative that you are under the care of a doctor who is good and who can guide you in the right direction so you stay as well as you possibly can.
